“£500 Challenge Bet” (£1027 – 1 bet running)
Lovely ride by Ryan Moore on Promising Lead yesterday – he is tactically aware, and keeps it simple, being able to place a horse in the right position in the race. Other jockeys should take note.
We are already on for the Irish Derby but with New Approach probably out are looking at a bit of a shambles of a book. Just have to live with it I guess.
So, what of the Euro 2008 final. My ratings at the start of the tournament would have had me pricing Spain up at 11/8 for this match. Which is what they are now, after being undeniably the best team in the tournament. Germany look there for the taking, but then they always do. It's not true they always have the last laugh though, and in fact their record in the final of Euro championships is nothing to write home about – ask the Czechs and Denmark. I'd really like Spain to win – which isn't a good reason to get involved that's for sure – so let's mark this down as an occasional love bet.
I'll save on penalties.
£20 Spain to beat Germany at 11/8+
£5 either team to win on penalties at 9/2+
“Barking Bets” (Banked £500/Current bank £1570 – one bet inrunning – unaccounted)
(Three horse races dragged us back for the week. I'd say the two group races at the Curragh and the one at St Cloud are all possibles. Watching brief. It would be nice to squeeze a profit, however tiny, out of a poor week, but I don't want to push it.)
