Friday 17th April

2009 Challenge Fund (£12650 - £100 in play unaccounted)

Current stake - £120

Could hardly have got that race more wrong – tailwind not helping, nor missing the break.

Saturday Gambler has gone draw crazy in the comments for yesterday and actually has punted a few of these. I've done two sets of draws – my normal ones, and a special one. Should they all lose the draw system profits are lost!

Middlesbro/Fulham draw £45 to return £155
Carlisle/Swindon draw £45 to return £150
Chester/Bournemouth draw £45 to return £150
£15 treble to return £550

Arsenal/Chelsea draw £45 to return £145
Everton/Man Utd draw £45 to return £155
Ipswich/Norwich draw to return £150
£15 treble to return £600

I'll play the races today – for interest only.

Barking Bets (Banked £1375/Current fund £2010 – 1 bet in play unaccounted)

No obvious bet – try to find one racing.

Have just posted on your Thursday blog about the dangers of betting on AFCB ! If I was a neutral I would say it is a good bet,but I am not!
Why couldn't I have been born in Manchester,Liverpool or North London........?

Newbury 14:40Shortlist: Chief Editor, Holbeck Ghyll, Oldjoesaid, Sonny Red

Oldjoesaid runs off the same BHA mark when winning over course and distance last year. In a race that has had a number of repeat winners one not to be dismissed lightly although only one favourite has won this race in 10 years.

Top weight Chief Editor is entered in a group two event in May and if he’s up to that standard he should easily win this race off top weight.

I’m hoping that top rated Holbeck Ghyll can defy the age stats. My pace charts indicate there is a significant advantage to early paced runners.

Dutch: Chief Editor and Holbeck Ghyll @ best price.

Thirsk 16:15Shortlist: Steelcut, Bo McGinty , Nomoreblondes, Mambo Spirit

Massive advantage to prominent runners berthed high which leaves me with doubts about Steel Cut. Ran well last time out after 226 days off gut feel tells me he’s bounce material.

On BHA ratings Nomoreblondes has a bit to find, however berthed in the box stall and early pace to boot, if there are not more withdrawals in the race she’s worthy of a place and possibly a win.

Nomoreblondes win/place (split stakes 20/80 respectively)

  3. Keep the faith, John!

Escorial has also shortlisted Oldjoesaid and Chief Editor, and Nomoreblondes. (I have no opinion personally - not got going today for some reason.) Good luck.
