Saturday 7th March

2009 Challenge Fund (£12095 - £680 in play accounted)
This month's stake - £120

Small loss yesterday despite Imoncloudnine's success.

I'll play Sandown again today – placepot looks worth a shot – and will back the following for reasons that have very little to do with form:
Song Sung Blue
Daves Dream
Prince Taime
Sole Agent
a couple of £10 trebles would return 25Kish so they'll be my get rich quick bets for the day.

Slipperytoad's put up a couple of All Weather races – see comments below. Personally, I'm finding his battle with Matsunosuke very compelling. He finally puts her up today. Corals' senior odds compiler on the other hand thinks she's there to be beaten today. Make of that what you will!

Football.

My ratings based bet is Luton. I know they leak goals, but I'm sure they're mainly priced on the fact they're relegated rather than on form – which is very decent at home
Luton £50 win at 7/4 and £70 draw no bet at 1.9

Draws system. This weekend's three:
Sunderland v Spurs
Orient v Brighton
Rotherham v Brentford
3 x £35 singles and £15 trebles

And a stolen tip. I really like the odds compilers' nap competition in the Racing Post and always look to see if there's any duplications. Today I can hardly help to notice that two compilers have put up Hoffenheim – unusual in itself. A cursory glance at the form shows that it's down to their home form being very good, and Weder Bremen's away form being very poor. 2/1 does look big in that situation, and on a quiet day, I'll play.
Hoffenhein beat Werder Bremen £120 at 2/1 (anything above 7/4).

Barking Bets (Banked £1375/Current bank £2090 – 1 bet in play unaccounted)
This week's stake - £250.

I backed the Gossamer Yank yesterday, just to stop this fund from seizing up

    Philario 4/1
    Aeroplane 9/2
    Bonus 9/2
    Ceremonial Jade 5/1
    Al Muheer 6/1
    Bar 50/1

Wouldn’t it be a fine thing for Al Muheer to pick up a £9k prize yesterday and quickly re-armed and re-fuelled to claim £23k listed event today. Philario @ 4/1 has the pace, draw and more importantly class edge today.

A stats point and shoot. 4 and 5 year-olds have dominated this race in recent years. From a process of elimination Mahadee and Flawed Genius are the selections and tentatively Flowing Cape. In recent years, the favourite has been beaten by big priced winners in all but one race therefore, a dutch of the above mentioned may be the way to go in this race.

    Matsunosuke 15/8
    Orpsie Boy 100/30
    Thebes 100/30
    Doubtful Sound 15/2
    Bar 50/1

Every winter one horse takes the honour as my All Weather nemesis and Matsunosuke has the prize this year. Requires a strong pace and gets it today, but can he deliver a late run on a flat track that rewards prominent tactics? Cramer would say, the opposite logic of this runner is clouding my judgement. Thebes is the joker in the pack. With a Lincoln entry what has he been doing for the last 123 days?

    Matsunosuke @ 15/8 or better,

  3. Dig in Toadista - not as hopeless as backing Luton (again!).

Dave's Dream saved the racing - where I blew 3 x the placepot at the last.

Should have included draw no bet on Hoffenheim with the benefit of hindsight.

The draws continue to please - though my whoop at the Spurs equaliser which brought the treble into play, died in my throat as Orient smashed it up with an 88th minute winner!

A £20 profit on the day when the dust settles - so at least the profits earmarked for next week's festival mayhem are safe - now I can sit back and support Fulham!

  4. Man Utd are a big price with that team mind, a saver bet could dampen my disappointment!
